Boys and Girls Club of Butler County still hard at work
MORGANTOWN Ky.-The Boys and Girls Club of Butler County staff is hard at work providing experiences and fun for the kids while they’re away. Since Covid-19 has put a stop to large gatherings, the idea is to keep giving the club members the chance to make memories.
“It makes me feel really good that we’re able to keep up support for our community even through the pandemic. Just to let the kids know that we’re here for them. That we’ve not gone anywhere,” said club executive director Amanda White.
The experience is kept alive through live Facebook readings, which staff members say they really enjoy.
“It’s really fun because the parents can get on there and show the kids the read along. It’s a good opportunity to reach more people,” said staff member Haley Ford.
The staff is even keeping the science experiments going, as they’ve also taken a Facebook video format.
“The kids love doing science experiments and doing fun projects like that, so we thought it would be good if we could still reach out to the students even though they’re at home, and show them some cool ways to do some different science projects,” said staff member Mikayla Iler.
While that’s going on, the kids will see an all-new mural when they get back to the club.
“With the mural, we knew we wanted to do something, and we started with the desk, and we did a Dr. Seuss quote. We decided to keep going with the theme,” said staff member Mattie McKinney
During this tough time, it can be hard to get groceries for some families, which the Boys and Girls Club has also been working to help out with through a grocery program, providing groceries for club members weekly.
“I know sometimes it’s hard especially during this pandemic, so it’s really cool that we get to interact with them when we see them with the groceries,” said staff member Starr Lawrence.
