Boy Scouts race to win in Pinewood Box Derby
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Jennings Creek Elementary School welcomed the Boy Scouts on Saturday.
The Boy Scouts held their Pinewood Box Derby and found some winners to send over to the district derby.
There were three total winners, with participants representing 15 total counties. The scouts make it sound easy narrowing the setup of their car to three steps, but in the end it’s about coming together and helping each other out to create the best looking and fastest cars, and in all, just having a great time.
“I’m just going to show it to everybody and put it on my shelf,” first place winner Hayden Gossett said, holding his trophy.
Explaining his creation process, second place winner Aaron Richey said, “You just have to carve it out, paint it, polish the wheels, polish axels.”
Randy Richey of Boy Scouts of America said the scouts were there all day working, cleaning up and helping other scouts.
“They’re trying to help themselves improve, to be a better part of the community,” he said.
Good luck to everyone moving on to the district derby!
