Bowling Green woman arrested after wreck, charged with drug possession

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green woman is charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded around 1 p.m. Monday to the 1300 block of College Street for a reported hit-and-run collision.
Upon arrival, police say a witness stated a black SUV was traveling east on Alumni Drive when the driver lost control of the vehicle and stopped in a yard.
The driver then backed up and left the scene, authorities say.
Western Kentucky University police then reviewed camera footage.
Police say the driver, identified as 43-year-old Jessica Copas of Bowling Green, parked at El Mazatlán and fled toward the train tracks.
Police located and detained Copas toward Skyline Mobile Home Park.
Authorities say Copas stated her brakes failed on the vehicle and that she did not think she had struck anything before leaving the scene in the vehicle.
During a search, police say they located a bag of suspected methamphetamine in Copas’ wallet.
Copas remains at the Warren County Regional Jail on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine), giving an officer false identifying information, second-degree criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance.
