Bowling Green Rotary Club hosts veteran speaker

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Rotary Club held their weekly meeting Wednesday afternoon, and members got to hear from a retired veteran.

Retired Sergeant Major John Gipe, who is now the Vice Chair of the Kentucky committee of the ESGR, which stands for Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve.

Gipe spoke on how important it is to hire veterans after their service, and he gave us an interesting perspective on just how many of these veterans they help.

“70% of the field artillery for the United States Army is in the Army National Guard… 60% of the engineering units… it goes on and on… and it’s just a critical piece of what our military does. The military cannot operate. The active duty cannot go to war without the Guard reserve… and so it’s critical that these employees understand that,” he says.

Gipe also says people can volunteer to help the ESGR out, whether it’s handing out awards or simply helping set up these presentations.
