Bowling Green recognizes National Suicide Prevention week
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Today city commissioners read aloud to a crowd a very meaningful proclamation.
Bowling Green and Warren County this year have decided to locally recognize National Suicide Prevention week along with the country on September 6 through September 10.
News 40 spoke to Life Skills Center Manager Katie Hopper about the issue that suicide causes for our area. Hopper told us according to the KIP survey; an annual survey that gauges use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and other factors that may play a role in a adolescent social and
emotional well-being, that 30 percent of 10th graders report psychological distress, and 20 percent of those have suicidal ideology.
Hopper said the push for the proclamation was to bring more community awareness to the issue and foster more positive conversation about mental health and suicide.
