Bowling Green police introduce automated call system for non-emergency line

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is sharing an update regarding its non-emergency line.

On a recent episode of the city’s podcast, TalkBG, the department stated an automated call system is being introduced for its non-emergency line.

Police say despite this, every 911 call will always be answered by a live call taker.

However, non-emergency calls, such as a lost wallet, will be handled by an automated system, the department says.

Police say this is due to dispatchers answering thousands of calls daily, with non-emergency calls often coming in at the same time at life-threatening situations.

This can lead to longer wait times.

Police say this new system will free up dispatchers to immediately focus on critical situations.
