Bowling Green Police Department hosts awards ceremony to honor officers
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department held their annual awards ceremony, as they recognize the work of their officers over the last year.
The ceremony helps recognize the work that may not be as noticed by the public.
This year, Officer Matt Davis was voted the Officer of the Year for his bravery in July of 2023, when he was shot in the line of duty.
Many other officers won awards for their service, including Sergeant Marc Kaiser, Officer Ben Craig, Sergeant Donitka Boyett, Sergeant James Lewis, Officer Brock Cleary, Civilian of the Year April Fulcher and many more.
We were able to speak to Detective of the Year Ryan Dillon, who told us he can’t do what he does without his coworkers and his family.
“I couldn’t do this job if it wasn’t for my wife being patient because I’m called out a lot, and I think I can speak for every detective and officer for that matter. So we have to have good family support at home. There’s days we see a lot of really bad things so it helps to go home to a family that’s kind and supportive and that understands that… sometimes when we come home, when we’re a little angry or grumpy… that’s because some of the stuff we’ve encountered throughout the day,” he says.
A huge congratulations to all the officers who won awards this year!
