Bowling Green Police Department arrests two in connection to WKU shooting on Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two arrests have now been made in connection to the shooting near Western Kentucky University on Sunday.

Officers with the Bowling Green Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Western Kentucky University Police Department responded to the 300 block of University Boulevard regarding an assault investigation involving a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located Diego Andres Lopez-Urdaneta inside his car, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported for medical treatment.

Through video surveillance footage of the area, investigators identified a suspect vehicle. Later that same day, detectives located the vehicle occupied by Christopher Mesa Ramirez. After interviewing the occupants, detectives arrested Ramirez for operating the Nissan Rogue at the time of the shooting.

Through further investigation, Bryan Aguero Lopez was identified as the individual who allegedly fired the weapon. An arrest warrant was obtained charging Lopez with First Degree Assault. With assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lopez was taken into custody.

After both subjects were arrested, detectives were notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The charges against Ramirez have been amended to Complicity to Commit Murder and Lopez’ charges are expected to be amended to Murder.

Christopher Meza Ramirez is currently lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. Bryan Aguero Lopez is awaiting extradition to Warren County.

The investigation is ongoing.
