Bowling Green neighborhood hosts a socially-distanced Easter parade
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Most of this year’s Easter celebrations were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But one local neighborhood still spread some Easter cheer to children while still abiding by the rules of social-distancing.
On Saturday, members of the Hunters Crossing Neighborhood Association passed out candy as a fire engine escorted them through the neighborhood streets.
Organizers say they planned the event for about three weeks and they had to consider every aspect of the parade to be sure they were keeping everyone safe. They tossed factory-sealed, individually wrapped packets of candy from the streets and wore gloves to avoid directly touching any of the candy.
Paul Blick, of the Hunters Crossing Neighborhood Association, said it was an uplifting event for him and that the neighborhood volunteers handed out candy to about five hundred kids. Their activity trackers registered seven miles’ worth of steps from the parade.
