Bowling Green man charged with assault, strangulation

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man is behind bars after a woman sustained several injuries.

On Saturday afternoon, Bowling Green police responded for a physical domestic disturbance on Crewdson Drive. A citation by BGPD states police arrived on scene and located a male standing in front of the residence. The citation states as police arrived, he “ran into the residence and slammed the door.”

After several attempts to knock on the door and giving verbal commands to open the door, BGPD states officers gained statements from several individuals and forced entry into the residence. Officers then gave a verbal command they were forcing entry into the residence, according to the citation.

Authorities state the door came open at this point, and a male identified as Shawn Wingfield came to the door. BGPD says Wingfield was then arrested, and authorities located a woman inside the residence.

The citation states authorities saw “scratches on both sides of her neck,” along with “blood on the collar of her shirt” and that she had “red, swollen eyes.” She additionally had a bruise forming on her elbow and blood on her arm, according to authorities.

The woman was transported by EMS to the hospital for further treatment.

Wingfield, 28, of Bowling Green is charged with second-degree assault – domestic violence and first-degree strangulation.

Wingfield remains in the Warren County Detention Center.
