Bowling Green man charged with assault of police officer
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing multiple charges, including assault of a police officer.
The Bowling Green Police Department says it responded on Wednesday for a reported burglary in progress at 3140 Scottsville Road at Red Roof Inn.
Upon arrival, police say they saw a male who was “acting very erratic” in the parking lot.
Police say after giving commands, the male aggressively charged at the officer.
Police say after an unsuccessful Taser deployment, the officer and male were in a physical altercation that ended with the subject being brought to the ground.
Police say the male, identified as Israel Venegas, 40, of Bowling Green, was “manifestly under the influence of drugs and was a danger to himself or others.”
While Venegas was placed into custody, police say he grabbed an officer’s city-issued weapon but was unsuccessful in retrieving it.
Venegas was brought to the ground again, police say, before being transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment.
Police say Venegas stated he had smoked “spice” and “had a bad trip.”
Venegas is charged with third-degree assault of a police officer or probation officer, disarming a peace officer, public intoxication – controlled substance (excludes alcohol), resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct, and menacing. He remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
