Bowling Green man arrested after stealing bread delivery truck, police say

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is facing charges after authorities say a bread truck was stolen in Bowling Green.

According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded early Thursday morning for a stolen vehicle report at Chick-fil-A off of Campbell Lane.

Authorities say the caller stated he had left the keys inside of a work truck while he went inside of the restaurant.

Upon returning, police say the caller discovered the Klosterman Baking Company truck circling the parking lot before it drove off onto Campbell Lane.

Police say the vehicle contained over $4,000 worth of buns for delivery to the business.

Officers say they observed the truck traveling down Russellville Road.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, police say the truck continued traveling. Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies followed the truck and attempted another traffic stop, however, police say the truck failed to stop.

It then turned back toward town, authorities say.

Officers say they then deployed spike strips, which hit all four of the truck’s tires.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Kayden Echols of Bowling Green, was taken into custody.

Police say Echols stated he needed the vehicle to reach his destination but later realized he was heading in the wrong direction.

Echols remains at the Warren County Regional Jail on charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto between $10,000 and $1,000,000, theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others between $1,000 and $10,000 and first-degree criminal mischief.
