Bowling Green League of Bicyclists kick off 2026 with bike ride across town

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Just Love Coffee Cafe on Scottsville Road, the Bowling Green League of Bicyclists met up this morning to kick off the new year with a ride around town.

“This is an annual event that we do, first day of the year, just to kick off the riding season, get the new year started right… and let everybody know we’re still out here, and we’re going to be scheduling our upcoming annual meeting, electing our officers and kicking off our season… looking forward to the riding season for 2026,” BGLOB president Diane Moats says.

The route includes neighborhoods in Bowling Green, with a main focus on the parks that the city has to offer.

“This particular ride kind of emphasizes the parks, so we go through Kereiakes. We go downtown, circle Circus Square, circle Fountain Square, and even up at little Ogden Park up by Western. So it’s just riding through the neighborhoods and enjoying Bowling Green,” Moats says.

While riding your bike in the new year is definitely fun to do with friends, it’s also important to do it safely, and that’s the number one goal of the BGLOB.

“Our mission with Bowling Green League of Bicyclists states that we want to bring the community together through bicycling to promote healthier lifestyles,” Moats says.

Most of all, it’s a chance to start on a possible New Year’s resolution, and doing it with a community.

“I love being outside. I have a Peloton, but I’d much rather ride outside, so it’s great when you can get together and the community of the club is really what has kept me coming back. We have a good partnership with BikeWalk BG and the other clubs, so it’s a real network of people out sharing their shared experiences and getting good exercise to start the year off,” Vince Bolton, BGLOB’s secretary, says.
