Bowling Green City Schools open preschool registration

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Preschool is often considered an important building block of education, and a local school district has recently opened registration.

The Bowling Green City Schools made registration available starting Monday April 12. The 2021-2022 term will have students attend two days per week from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The district will offer 10 preschool sessions with five classrooms located at T.C. Cherry Elementary School. Also new this year, tuition-based preschool will be offered for up to 50 students. The children must be 4 years old by Aug. 1 of the current school year, and not meet the criteria for state funded preschool. The tuition is $200 a month.

Elisa Brown, the district’s director of instructional programs says a lot of benefits come from preschool, including early social interaction.

“It fosters a love of school early on. I think it builds excitement in students because they sometimes see older siblings going to school, and it’s their chance to be a part of that. It builds that foundation that school is fun, and it sets up a good experience that maybe they can have the rest of their school years,” Brown said.

School days will include breakfast and lunch. All meals will be free for the children.
