Bowling Green city officials look forward to 2020

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-With the year 2020 fast approaching, the city of Bowling Green is looking ahead to what changes will come. Downtown Bowling Green has been upgraded, and the city commission has even more upcoming methods to accommodate for the fast-growing city.

“It’s important that we’re able to manage that kind of growth. Growth is a good problem to have. I think most people if not everybody on the commission is glad for the growth,” said Bowling Green city Commissioner Brian Nash.

Planning and zoning, along with upgrades to traffic are coming up. Additionally, a larger population means emergency responders like the Bowling Green Fire Department need more resources to work with. They’re getting a whole new fire station that will be housed at the lover’s lane soccer complex.

“We’re excited. It’s something we’ve been working on for a little over a year now. We’re going through the final document process getting everything completed there. We’re excited to be breaking ground here soon,” said Bowling Green Fire Department Chief Jason Colson.

Colson said more resources means more personnel, and more ways to serve the city.

“It’s been exciting to see the city growing, and with that comes the need to provide services. The commission has been extremely supportive of the fire department and ensuring that we’re able to provide quick protection to all areas of the city,” Colson said.

Something both emergency responders and city officials agree on is that teamwork is key for 2020.

“The sense of satisfaction that I receive in trying to help the community grow and be safe through the fire department and the police department, to be able to play a small role in that is very gratifying foe me,” Nash said.

An initiative by Nash called “Don’t block the box” is also in the works for 2020. This seeks to prevent traffic congestion when cars stop past red lights.
