Bowling Green city leaders looking for new convention center owner

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- City leaders in Bowling Green have announced intentions to sell the Sloan Convention Center to a private company.

Bowling Green City Commissioner Brian “Slim” Nash told WNKY that the Convention Center Board voted 6-0 Tuesday afternoon to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to those who may be interested in purchasing the building.

The Convention Center Board is made up of all five Bowling Green City Commissioners and Warren County Judge-Executive Michael Buchanon.

Interested parties will have 90 days to respond to the RFP with their proposal and must keep the venue open as a convention center for 25 years.

Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson told WNKY that he feels people with convention center experience should own the venue and that city government should concentrate more on its police, public works and fire services.

The Sloan Convention Center first opened its doors in 1995.
