Bowling Green burglary suspect arrested after traffic stop

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is charged with burglary and possessing a stolen firearm following a traffic stop.

The Bowling Green Police Department says a traffic stop was conducted on Saturday, October 12 regarding expired registration plates.

During the stop, Jacob Burton, 33 of Bowling Green, was identified as a suspect in a burglary that happened on Louisville Road on August 27, 2024.

A complainant says Burton broke into an apartment and stole a pistol, ammunition, and a laptop. The complainant provided police with surveillance footage of the suspect with the items during the burglary.

Police say Burton was apprehended and agreed to speak with police. He denied knowledge of the burglary but had seen posts about the break-in on social media.

An officer says the surveillance footage was shown to Burton. Burton said he was at the apartment building to retrieve a meth pipe and belongings in the woods, after agreeing to speak with police.

Police say the surveillance footage shows Burton committing the burglary based on his statement and the tattoos visible on the suspect.

Burton denies committing the apartment break-in.

Burton is charged with burglary, 1st degree, theft by unlawful taking or disposition – firearm, theft by unlawful taking or disposition of all others, and criminal mischief, 2nd degree. He is lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.
