Bowling Green boys’ basketball heads to 2025 state tournament
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a big week for the Bowling Green boys’ basketball team as they gear up for their first trip to the state tournament since 2021.
The Purples squad had their sendoff this morning as they hit the road to Lexington and gear up to take on the Adair County Indians inside Rupp Arena on Wednesday morning.
BG holds a 28-6 record on the year and defeated Clinton County 66-59 last week to claim the 4th region title and secure their spot in the KHSAA Sweet 16.
During their last practice at home, head coach DG Sherrill shared how his team’s entire season has helped prepare them for this week.
“We try to play a really miserable schedule every year and we try to play really good teams, go to shootout events, go to good tournaments, and we try to challenge our guys as much as we can,” Sherill said. “We play back-to-back nights a lot to just kind of get ourselves in a tournament atmosphere, so I don’t think that the stage will be too big for us. I think we’re ready to do that. We have six seniors that have smelled the locker room at Rupp few times, just hadn’t quite finished the deal. But this year they got through, so I think they want to go up there and stay a while.”
The Purples and the Indians have already met once this season back in December when Adair County took the win by four points, but both of these groups have matured significantly in the past three months and will be hitting the court in Lexington as different teams then they were in 2024.
Basketball fans know that anything can happen in March, and these Purples know what it’s going to take to get a win on Wednesday.
“[We have to] play hard of course and just be ourselves,” senior Braylon Banks said. “I feel like if we be ourselves and play hard, it’ll all take care of itself.”
“When everybody’s on fire, then I don’t know what to tell you then because when Luke’s going, when Braylon’s going, when I’m going, Deuce, Jace and Joe, it’s like we can’t be stopped,” senior Kadyn Carpenter said. “Dream team for real.”
