Bowling Green Board of Education approves 5% salary increase for city school employees

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Board of Education has approved a 5% salary increase for all employees, both certified and classified for the 2024-2025 school year.

First-year teachers with a bachelor’s degree will begin at $45,000 and the minimum hourly wage in BGISD will be $15.75 an hour, according to the district.

According to a release by BGISD, about half of this salary increase is made possible with additional state funding provided through SEEK and transportation allocations. The remaining 2.5% is possible because of the district’s student enrollment growth over the last few years, local support, and efficient fiscal management.

Based on the two-year budget approved by the 2024 General Assembly, a 5% salary increase will be available for only one of the two fiscal years. The decision to provide increased compensation for employees in 2024-2025 will limit the district’s ability to give significant raises in 2025-2026.
