BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- City leaders in Bowling Green have approved a large-scale racing event this spring.

At Tuesday’s city commission meeting, elected officials voted unanimously to allow Grand National Cross-Country Racing to bring their event to Bowling Green May 16 and 17.

It will take place at the landfill on Glen Lilly Road.

According to Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson, the organizers of the event will be leasing the land for $3,000 and are required to restore the property to its original condition.

The race is expected to draw around 15,000 spectators to the area and have an economic impact of around $3 million.
