Blood drive at Sloan Convention Center

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This coming Friday, there is an opportunity to donate blood to the Red Cross.

Though the Red Cross is a national organization, being based in Nashville puts Bowling Green in the position to receive needed donations that could save lives. The Med Center’s blood lab coordinator Lauren Nickel said last year, they performed over 5,000 transfusions which means 5,000 lives were impacted by those who choose to donate.

“You never know what can happen, what kind of patients might come in” Nickel said, adding to the importance of the hospital having blood on hand.

Local hospitals in the area get much of their blood supply from the Red Cross, so there’s a chance if you donate locally that you’ll be helping out a neighbor.

This Friday, February 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the Red Cross’s next drive in Bowling Green, but if you can’t make it this week then you can head to http://redcrossblood.org to check out for drives near you.
