Bill clears Kentucky Senate to clarify voter identification requirements

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky’s Senate just passed a bill that could impact you when you go vote. The bill, which has to pass the House, would more closely define what type of identification is allowed when checking in at a polling place in Kentucky.

Kentucky already requires voters to show identification before they are allowed to cast a ballot in any of Kentucky’s precincts.

But Lynette Yates, Warren County’s Court Clerk, says the changes may not be that different, since Kentucky already allows credentials like credit cards to be used as identification to vote. And if a poll worker can personally identify you, that counts as identification too.

Yates also says if you’re not currently registered to vote, you have until thirty days before an election to register and still be eligible to vote in that election.
