Big Red Falls In Controversial Mascot Bracket Championship Round
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Even with no live games or events currently taking place, there’s still controversy in the sports world.
After a lengthy investigation, Sirius XM’s College Sports’ Channel announced BYU’s “Cosmo the Cougar” as the winner of the 2020 Mascot Bracket Challenge.
Voting between Cosmo and Western Kentucky’s mascot “Big Red” was set to conclude on Friday morning at 11 a.m. CST, but Sirius XM’s College Sports Channel’s official Twitter account posted the following tweet moments after polls closed.
However, after a three-plus hour investigation, the College Sports’ Channel determined that BYU’s “Cosmo the Cougar” was this year’s champion.
Big Red’s Twitter account promptly responded with a video that chronicled the big, furry blob’s Cinderella-esque run from “play-in game afterthought” to Championship Round participant.
Shortly thereafter, an official statement was sent out by WKU Sports’ Twitter account pertaining to the day’s controversial events.
The Championship bout ended with BYU’s mascot on top by the slimmest of margins, as “Cosmo the Cougar” won by a 51.1% to 48.9% count with over 96,000 votes cast.
