BGPD teams up with community resource center for Jacket and Food Drive

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- With temperatures dropping, everyone needs a winter coat, and there are a few people in the community coming together to make sure no one goes without what they need.

The Bowling Green Police Department is partnering with a community member who saw a problem and is creating a solution through a jacket and food drive that will benefit students from three local schools in Bowling Green: Parker Bennett Curry Elementary School, Dishman McGinnis Elementary School, and Warren Elementary, and also support their families.

“Just to give back to the community? That was the main thing,” Jkeyah Patterson, the community resource center supervisor, said. “Just to make sure that those schools, those kids have what they need for the winter.”

Receiving jackets are not new for BGPD, but they knew that partnering with the Patterson would help more people.

“Different people have different connections, right? And so I might only know a certain amount of people. … And she’s probably going to have more connections that I might have,” Amber Kae, Community resource officer, said “And it just it’s going to be a better outreach for the community as a whole.”

If you’d like to drop off gloves, scarves, hats, coats, or non- perishable food items, you can stop by Parker Bennett Curry Elementary.
