BGPD hosts Open House at the David Whitson Public Safety Training Center

Bgpd Open House

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Bowling Green Police Department hosted an open house for the community at the David Whitson Public Safety Training Center on Thursday evening.

Officers and dispatchers were there to meet with the community and potential recruits for the academy this coming fall. There were also opportunities for those in attendance to tour the center’s facilities.

These facilities include the new state-of-the-art gym, simulation rooms, and mat rooms where cadets can practice hand-to-hand combat. All of these are open to cadets and officers at any time.

Along with finding potential new recruits, the event served as an outreach opportunity for the officers and the community.

This was a great chance for them to talk and interact while beginning to familiarize and build relationships, something the officers at BGPD are happy to do.

“It’s fun for me and it’s fun for the community. We speak to people from all ages, from kids to our senior citizens.” Said Kendra Woodard, a Community Resource Officer with BGPD. ” It allows people to not be afraid of us, right? It allows for those type of open conversations and it allows people to see that we are just human, just like everyone else.”
