BGFD’s Millie awarded “Top Dog” honors at national competition

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local K9 has been awarded “Top Dog” after a national competition held in Boston, Massachusetts.

Bowling Green Fire Department K9, Millie, and her handler, Captain Michael Cornwell attended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives annual recertification last week.

Along with the recertification process, the canine teams get to have a little fun with a competition called “Top Dog.”

According to a release, the competition consists of locating different accelerant odors on items such as clothing, shoes and carpet.

After beating out approximately 50 K9 teams from across the country, Bowling Green’s own Millie and Captain Cornwell were awarded the honor of the 2019 Top Dog.
