BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Dozens of animals are now dead after a house fire at the corner of Vine Street and West 10th Avenue in Bowling Green.

Katie McKee, public information officer with the Bowling Green Fire Department, says the agency received a call at 7:50 a.m. this morning and responded four minutes later.

McKee says the fire was under control in under five minutes. In addition, first responders found numerous animals in need of rescue, according to officials.

Seven animals were removed alive and treated by BGFD and EMS, officials say. The surviving animals were transported by the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society to a local veterinarian for further treatment.

However, the humane society says roughly another 70 animals were found dead inside the home. Of the 70 animals, 22 were dogs and 48 were cats. No civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
