BGFD firefighters climb 110 floors to honor 9/11 fallen firemen

NASHVILLE, Tn.- Bowling Green firefighters climbed 110 floors to honor fellow firemen lost in 9/11.

343 firefighters passed away on that fateful day. Each year at the William Snodgrass Towers in Nashville, BGFD firefighters climb 110 floors…the same number of floors that were in the Twin Towers.

The firemen wear their full gear, weighing about 60 to 80 pounds. Each of the 26 Bowling Green firefighters that climbed, wore the tag of a firefighter who had passed away.

“It’s very emotional, very emotional. They play the bagpipes, very sorrowful and emotional plus a lot of times a family member of someone who died that day will be there,” said BGFD firefighter and EMT Ronnie Atkins.

The Bowling Green Fire Department has been participating for 14 years.
