BG Freedom Walkers hosts back-to-school block party Saturday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Multiple school districts began classes across the region this morning and one local organization is making sure that area students get started on the right foot. The Bowling Green Freedom Walkers are hosting their 2025 Block Party, a free community event.
“This is our sixth year, so we’re big on being here, being active for community spread and peace, love, diversity and unity,” said Rika Nelson, CEO and Founder of BG Freedom Walkers. “We want to be here for our youth. We want to show them a good example, be role models for them, and to support the parents in need.”
Last year’s turnout was the organization’s biggest yet in their fifth year of hosting the block party, giving out a total of around 700 backpacks. This year’s party includes bounce houses, a three point contest, free ice cream, giveaways of backpacks, gift cards, and t-shirts and so much more. Community members such as City Commissioners Dana Beasley Brown and Carlos Bailey will be in attendance.
The event will begin at 4pm at the Parker Bennett Elementary Basketball Courts and lasts until 7pm.
