BG Freedom Walkers host Juneteenth celebration at Capitol Theatre

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The BG Freedom Walkers had a movie showing at the Capitol Wednesday in honor of Juneteenth.

The evening started with figures from the community, including Bowling Green mayoral candidate Patti Minter, speaking about Juneteenth and its importance.

The movie chosen was “Hidden Figures” about three African-American women who worked for NASA in the 1960s.

However, the importance of learning about this holiday doesn’t just stop after June 19th.

“We have to take that daily because we’re not all free until everyone’s free… so different situations, we know that it’s going to take change and it’s still gonna take effort… but we’ve come a long way from when this movie took place in the 1960s… but we have a long way to go,” Karika Nelson with the BG Freedom Walkers says.
