BOWLING GREEN Ky.-The Bowling Green running community is still out of breath from a packed weekend. The BG 26.2 and half marathon took place to continue the fight to end Multiple Sclerosis, also known as MS. MS, is a chronic often disabling disease that damages the central nervous system. A condition very important to race director Lilly Riherd.

“This Is the 10th year. We did this in memory of my sister who had passed from complications of MS at the age of 48. We started doing a run and decided that Bowling Green is big enough to do a marathon. We got approval from the city and the state, so here we are 10 years later. We raise money for MS,” Riherd said.

The events started on a cold Saturday morning near the Bowling Green Ballpark, where runners met for the shake out run, which was a brief run to get everyone ready for the big race. Participants say it not only feels great to be active, but to know that they’re running for a cause step by step.

Later that same day, the runners attended the BG 26.2 expo at the National Corvette Museum before the 1-mile walk that evening. Representatives from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society also attended to further help spread the message, and say it was inspiring to see so many running for a cause.

“It’s amazing. It’s so great to see people coming out and taking part in an event like this. MS is a very personal to a lot of people, myself included, and the only way we’re ever going to find a cure is for everyone to come together and work hard to make it happen,” said National MS Society chapter president David Haddock.

The big day came early on Sunday morning. All the training led up to this moment, a moment representing that the running community is one track to raise money to help end MS.
