Beware of COVID-19 vaccine scams

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Health professionals are urging the public to take caution of potential scams as COVID-19 vaccine distribution continues.

Signs of potential scams include being asked to pay out of pocket, being asked to put name on a waiting list or get early access, and marketers offering to sell or ship doses of the vaccine for a form of payment.

Another thing to avoid is sharing your COVID-19 vaccine card on social media. The card has self-identifying information on it that makes you vulnerable to identity theft.

“Just protect yourself. Don’t give out your personal information to any unknown sources. If you’re asked to pay out of pocket for the vaccine or to put your name on a waiting list, don’t do that. And be wary of any of those advertisements from unknown sources,” said Barren River District Health Department Marketing and Communications Coordinator Ashli McCarty.

And if you do want to share that you got vaccinated on social media, you can still do so just make sure to not share any personal information.
