Better Business Bureau warns about back-to-school scams
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Better Business Bureau asks consumers to be leery of ads promoting deals that sound too good to be true, especially on big ticket items such as laptops and tablets.
Many consumers fall for such ads each year, often seemingly promoting a product from a reputable source, after purchasing the product never arrives. Whitney Adkins at the BBB recommends always checking the actual website of the retailer in question as the deal, if it is legitimate, will be on their website assuming it isn’t an in store only deal.
“It’s these bigger ticket items that we want parents and and young adults as well to be wary of when they’re shopping online. Be really, really suspicious of any ads that just seem too good to be true. We’ve seen a lot of reports through our scam tracker in our area of online shopping scams that start out with a sales ad,” Adkins said.
