Beshear provides update on storm recovery efforts

FRANKFURT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear provided an update on cleanup efforts around the state after strong storms blew into our area last Friday.
Tonight, 69 counties and 27 cities are still under a state of emergency, according to the governor.
Beshear says joint damage assessments are being conducted across the commonwealth by state representatives, impacted counties and FEMA.
Many are still cleaning up debris. In total, the governor says five Kentuckians died as a result of Friday’s storms.
“We mourn with their families today, acknowledging that no amount of disasters we experience as a commonwealth will ever prepare our hearts for the loss of one Kentuckian,” Beshear said.
As of this morning, there were 3,300 power outages in Kentucky – that’s down from around 475,000 reported on March 4.
Utility companies are continuing their work to restore power to all those affected.
