SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – A local county gained a large amount of funding Friday in an announcement by Gov. Andy Beshear.

The governor announced over $5 million in awards for Simpson County.

He says the money is going to support career and technical education, tourism marketing, cleaner water projects and six local nonprofit organizations. These include Boys and Girls Club of Franklin-Simpson and Habitat for Humanity of Simpson County.

Over $4 million will fund renovations for Franklin-Simpson High School, which will include new dedicated spaces for nursing and technology students.

Beshear says over $800 will go toward replacing the City of Franklin’s old water mains.

The leftover funding will go toward local nonprofits and tourism marketing.

Funding for water mains, tourism and nonprofits will be sourced from American Rescue Plan Act dollars, according to Beshear’s office.
