FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state building to be lowered to half-staff in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died in World War II.
The governor’s office says flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, May 7.
According to Beshear’s office, U.S. Army Pfc. Kenneth D. Burgess, 29, of Central City, Kentucky, was a member of Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion, “Darby’s Rangers,” in the Mediterranean Theater. He was reported missing in action following a patrol toward the village of Sala, Italy, on Sept. 25, 1943. Read more here.
Officials say his remains were only identified last summer.
A graveside service and interment with military honors will take place on Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
All individuals are invited to participate in the tribute.
