Beshear orders flags lowered to half-staff to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear is directing that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, May 15 in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
According to the governor’s office, a joint resolution of Congress, approved October 1, 1962, designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The week in which this date falls is also designated at Police Week.
Officials say this observance pays tribute to local, state and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
“Kentucky’s law enforcement officers deserve our gratitude every day, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice especially deserve to be honored and remembered each and every day,” Beshear. “Please take some extra time this week to let those who protect and serve your community know that you care about them.”
The governor encourages all individuals to take part in this tribute.
