Beshear calls special session to help Eastern Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Beshear announced that on August 24th at noon, a special session will be held to talk about further assistance to areas of the state affected by the flooding of last month.
As Eastern Kentucky communities are trying to begin the recovery process, FEMA as well as other entities from around the state have traveled to help those in need by facilitating things such as evacuation efforts and bringing in bottled water for residents. Many in the area still are in need of shelter and running water.
Beshear said this special session will set up a “safe fund” similar to the one in Western Kentucky to help those communities affected as well as help school systems who will have to start late.
