Beshear: 6th death confirmed after Memorial Day weekend storms hit Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Another death has been confirmed after storms swept across Kentucky during Memorial Day weekend.

Gov. Andy Beshear stated during a Team Kentucky Update on Thursday that his team is working to confirm details, but he believes the victim was a 99-year-old from Laurel County.

Beshear previously stated deaths occurred in the city of Louisville as well as Hardin, Hopkins, Caldwell and Mercer counties. The governor declared a state of emergency at the time due to the severity of weather conditions, and damage that followed in multiple local counties required days of cleanup.

Cleanup efforts have still been underway in some areas, such as debris pickup in Warren County.

Beshear warned that weather is still something Kentuckians should be aware of as high heat indexes approach into next week, including on Monday.
