Ben Mujcic named next Purples soccer head coach

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After longtime Bowling Green boys soccer coach Craig Widener announced his departure from the program back in January, BGHS has hired Ben Mujcic as the next leader of the Purples.

Mujcic is a founder and current president/director of coaching with the Bowling Green Football Club (BGFC).

In his time with BGFC, the club has become a successful avenue for local youth development in the game.

Mujcic is originally from Bosnia, but he grew up in Kentucky and is a proud alum of Bowling Green High School.

“It’s a very honorable moment for myself, my family,” Mujcic said. “Bowling Green soccer and the Bowling Green city school system has helped develop me into who I am as a person, and I want to be able to do the same thing going forward for the next generation coming up.”

As a Class of 2013 graduate, Mujcic has recent experience playing in the program under Coach Widener and wants to continue to build a culture where his teams can both compete at a high level on the pitch and bond together like a family.

Mujcic is excited to be back in the 14th district and competing within one of the toughest groupings of teams in the Bluegrass.

“We’ve been able to compete, on the club side, through the state levels, through the regional levels and national levels. Much respect to all the other programs in the region and in the district because they’ve been building programs the right way moving forward. We’re going to continue to do that,” Mujcic said.

“Our program and our mission are going to be on a brief pause, right now, so we can find out who we are, as an identity, and then we’re going to keep building the next six months until districts come into play.”
