Beloved Grayson County store employee dies in crash, says Sheriff

Fatal Crash

LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – A beloved Leitchfield department store employee was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Friday.

Grayson County Sheriff Norm Chaffins says his office responded to the 3700 block of Shrewsbury Road to an injury accident with entrapment at approximately 7:13 am.

GCSO’s investigation shows Mary E. Haynes, 59, of Leitchfield, was driving a SUV northbound on Shrewsbury Road (KY 187) when it, for unknown reasons, swerved, crossed the southbound lane, and crashed into a ditch.

Sheriff Chaffins says the SUV overturned and continued down the ditch and struck a deep culvert on the driver’s side front end.

Haynes was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown around in the vehicle.

The SUV came to a stop and landed on its top.

The Grayson County Deputy Coroner pronounced Hayes dead at the scene.

The Leitchfield Volunteer Fire Department and Grayson County EMS assisted the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Chaffins says Haynes was a beloved store employee of a Grayson County department store.
