Barren River Lake announces upgrades

LUCAS Ky.- Barren River Lake park will soon be looking at some upgrades.

State Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland, along with other officials like Kentucky Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Cabinet Deputy Secretary Regina Stivers made an announcement on the Restoring the Finest initiative.

This initiative was made possible through the approval of House Bill 268.

It provides $50 million for infrastructure improvements to parks across the Commonwealth. Barren River will be receiving $2.3 million of that total amount.

Holland said he’s looking forward to making the park look even better.

“Just seeing the park come back and being a stronger part of the economic impact and seeing people enjoy the park as they did 10 or 15 years ago. We’re looking forward to that day,” Holland said.

Some work that will take place over time will include sprinkler upgrades, water and sewer improvements and new roofing on the cabins.
