Barren River Health District will suspend health services in schools
GLASGOW Ky.- Starting next year, the Barren River District Health Department will stop providing health programs at many area schools.
According to the Health Department’s Director, Matthew Hunt, the Health Department does not have the funding to keep the health programs running.
The programs provide some schools with nurses.
While some school districts within the health department’s eight-county coverage area already utilize other health services, the Barren County School District does not.
The district is now looking to partner with other health providers before the year ends.
“The one thing and I guess the most important thing is that it keeps our students in the building. The nurses are able to provide the services there where they would have to otherwise see an outside practitioner or agency,” said Barren County Schools director of special programs Cynthia York.
Some other health programs that schools utilize in our area come from T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Graves Gilbert Clinic and The Medical Center at Caverna.
