Barren/Metcalfe Drug Court celebrates 20 years of serving community

GLASGOW, Ky. – An important part of the Barren and Metcalfe County region is celebrating a milestone in May, 20 years of serving the community.

Barren/Metcalfe Drug Court was created back in 2005, and many of those that have helped make the program what is it today were on hand to celebrate.

From former judges to staff who have worked in the program to law enforcement, it’s all about the people whose lives they’ve helped to save.

One staff member who has been at the helm for all 20 years says she couldn’t have done it without the community’s support.

“Each person who’s gone through it has chosen to make a difference for themselves, become a productive citizen. These people want a better life and they show that by all the efforts they go through… but this county, as you’ve seen today… the amount of support we have is unmeasurable. It’s the best county you could ever imagine working with,” Candy Reed, program coordinator for Barren/Metcalfe and the 43rd Judicial Circuit, says.

She also shares her gratitude to everyone she’s had the pleasure to work with over these past 20 years, and hopes to see even more lives changed over the next 20.

Mayor Henry Royse and Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd were also on hand to proclaim May as National Treatment Court Month in the area as a celebration of the work they do.
