Barren County Vietnam Veteran returns from Honor Flight
BARREN CO., Ky.-One Barren County Air Force Vietnam Veteran had the opportunity of a lifetime…taking an honor flight to Washington D.C.
Bobby Dawsey entered the Air Force at 26 years old. Now, 81 years old…with the help of donations…he boarded the flight along with 73 other Vietnam Veterans, seven Korean War Veterans, and one World War II Veteran.
In the span of one day, the Veterans saw the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Memorial, the FDR Memorial, the Arlington National Cemetery and much more.
Dawsey said his favorite part of the trip was seeing the nearly 300-feet-tall Air Force Memorial, with three peaks representing a thunderbird formation.
Old friends were reunited on the trip and new friends were made.
“It was really nice to be around them, of course not wanting to talk about it [war]. But it was nice to be around them, meeting them both military and civilian,” said Dawsey.
When the plane landed back in Kentucky, the veterans were greeted by over a thousand people cheering, holding signs and giving high fives and fist bumps. To donate to the honor flight program, click here.
