Barren County students win 2024 Congressional App Challenge

WASHINGTON – Rep. Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced the winners of the Congressional App Challenge from Kentucky’s Second District on Thursday.

According to a release by Guthrie’s office, the Congressional App Challenge is hosted annually in multiple districts.

The Barren County High School student team of Emmaline Phelps, Brooke Gibson and Cole Young won overall first place with their app, “Allergy Aware,” officials say.

Guthrie says, “I am proud to announce that Barren County High School students Emmaline Phelps, Brooke Gibson and Cole Young are Kentucky’s Second District’s Congressional App Challenge winners. The Congressional App Challenge gives students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in computer science. I am proud to host this competition each year to inspire students to advance their coding skills and their interest in computer science careers through friendly competition. The Congressional App Challenge would not be possible without the incredible students, educators, and judges from the Second District. Congratulations to all the high school and middle school students who participated in the 2024 Congressional App Challenge.”
