Barren County shares winter break support and resources for students

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – As the winter break approaches, many students who rely on school meals may face challenges during the long time off.

Barren County Schools is stepping up to help by offering food assistance to students throughout the break. They will deliver hot meals to ensure students don’t go without, regardless of their circumstances.

Lorie Ryan, youth service coordinator at BCMS, explains that this initiative provides not just food but a sense of security and warmth for the students. The program includes after-school food services, where students can take as much as they need to fill their backpacks. For many, this allows them to contribute to their families by bringing home extra meals.

“I’m going to take home food to my family today,” Ryan recalls hearing from students, a source of pride for them.

There are no requirements to access this support to ensure that no one is left behind during the winter break.
