Barren County School District will soon offer more health-related services

GLASGOW Ky.-The Barren County School District will soon start providing dental and behavioral health services to students.

It’s all part of a program called the Healthy Kids Clinic. It’s happening due to a new partnership between the school district and Cumberland Family Medical Center, which is based in Burkesville.

When students return to class from winter break, health clinics will be in every school in the district. The clinics will provide both dental and behavioral health services to students, without them having to leave for appointments.

Barren County School District director of special programs Cynthia York said it’s a great new resource for the district.

“For many students who can’t get to a dentist on a regular basis, it will be a great benefit. When it comes to mental health and behavior therapy, you can’t have enough services for students,” York said.

The district plans to have Cumberland Family Medical employ at least two behavioral health specialists for the district. They will travel from school to school.
