Barren County judge executive provides solar ordinance update

BARREN COUNTY, Ky.- In Barren County, the results of the new solar ordinance are in, and officials say many residents are voicing strong opposition.

While some concerns stem from the appearance and placement of the solar panels, deeper issues involve potential impacts on private property.

The ordinance could eventually allow for large-scale solar farms, raising concerns about long-term land use.

County judge executive Jamie Byrd explained that the ordinance places stricter guidelines on incoming companies. She added that projects can still move forward if companies meet these new requirements and work with neighbors. An addendum is also under consideration that could give nearby property owners more say in the process.

One major outcome of negotiations was a 1,000-foot setback rule, creating more distance between panels and homes. As discussions continue, further updates will be shared with the community.
