Barren County hosting ‘Paint the Town Yellow’ event to support local businesses

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Barren County is hosting the “Paint the Town Yellow” event Friday and Saturday to help support local businesses and bring the community together to turn the entire area yellow.

On June 12 and 13, over 40 local businesses will be participating in the festivities on the square and throughout downtown Barren County. Each store will have its own unique specials for the next two days only.

Restaurants, such as George J’s on The Square, will have special pineapple and lemon-flavored items during the event. Chief’s Comics is also holding a special where all Wolverine themed items are 20% off throughout the store.

Along with these deals, each store and business will be decked out in yellow to help promote the event. As you walk throughout the downtown area, you will see store windows with yellow flowers, clothes, posters and even a large yellow duck to join in on all the festivities.

There will also be a chance for community members and those visiting from out of town to win a golden ticket, where they will win an all expenses paid day in Barren County.

To enter for a chance to win, all you will need to do is take a picture with the hashtag #PTTY2026 and post on Facebook.

This is the first time the event has been held and was put together to help local businesses get more people to come through their doors during a slower time of year.

“A lot of our small businesses in summer months, their sales are down. So we’re kind of wanting to help them help their businesses stay afloat,” said Landry Steenbergen, communications coordinator with Glasgow-Barren County Tourism. “We’re wanting people to come from out of town, visit our area, and it’s extremely important to get people in and shop small.”
